The health benefits of a made-to-measure bra
Over shoulder boulder holders, booby blankets or dumpling covers, no matter the name of your bra, if you wear one, it's more than likely you have been faced with discomfort or pain as a result of your intimate wardrobe choice. According to a study from Underlines Magazine in 2019, over 90% of women are wearing the wrong-sized bra, and the result is often in the pain and side effects that bras can bring.
Alongside this startlingly high statistic, Underlines Magazine also found that the wrong bra size is often worn due to a change in body shape, but nearly 50% of women haven't been measured in over 5 years (eve
n after having a change in shape). 79% of women who self-measured got an incorrect size compared to when they visited a professional bra fitter.
So how can a made-to-measure bra improve your physical and mental health?
An incorrectly sized bra won't just change the shape of your body, but it can also give you pain and discomfort throughout the day. An ill-fitting bra can cause back, neck and shoulder aches and could even lead to breast skin damage through stretch marks or abrasions. This is where a made-to-measure bra could change everything.
Simply put, a made-to-measure bra is a bra that is designed perfectly for you, your shape and your lifestyle. Using your perfect measurements (taken by a professional), a bra is created that will support your breasts throughout the day without causing pain, discomfort or a weird body shape. Made-to-measure bras offer great support not just for your breasts but for your back, chest, neck and shoulders, improving your posture and protecting your skin from damage.
Alongside physical health benefits, a made-to-measure bra is all about boosting your confidence and helping you love the body you have. By giving you the right body shape that accentuates your figure, you will be able to walk straight and be proud to show off your curves, thanks to your bespoke bra fitting.
Choosing a made-to-measure bra that's perfect for your lifestyle
Are you looking for a made-to-measure bra that will improve your physical and mental health? If so, you're in the right place. But with so many options available, it can be tough to know where to start. Let's take a look at the basic elements of a bra so you can make an informed decision.
A bra is typically made up of a band, cups, straps and a clasp. However, it's important to note that these elements can be customized to your specific size, shape and aesthetic requirements. So, if you're looking for a bra that will perfectly meet your needs, don't hesitate to request customisations.
You wouldn't necessarily wear the same bra for your exercise routine as you would for going out for dinner with friends. For this reason, it's important that your made-to-measure bra is supportive during the busiest aspects of your day - essentially, the time when you (and your boobs) need the most support!
When you work with our professional designer and fitter, you will have the option to discuss your day and what you need from your made-to-measure bra. By having this chat, we can be sure that your bra will be perfect for you and your lifestyle. We will also discuss detail and decoration so that your bra isn't just perfectly functional, but it looks beautiful too!
What constitutes a great-fitting bra?
A properly fitted bra will be snug around the body, with your breasts filling the cups completely. There should be no excess fabric in the cups and no breast tissue spilling out of the cup at the top, side, or bottom. The bra's centre front should touch or very nearly touch, the breastbone. The bra band shouldn't ride up in the back, and the straps should stay in place without slipping or digging into the shoulders.
Checking the band
A band that fits you properly should stay level with your rib cage throughout the day - no riding up in the front or around your spine. You can test whether or not your band fits properly by using your fingers to pull the band away from your torso. If there's more than a 2-inch gap, it doesn't fit right.
Checking the cups
To ensure your bra fits properly, make sure the cups hold your entire breast with no bulging or gaps at the sides, the top, or below. To get your full breast in each cup, use the “scoop and swoop” technique. Take your hand and scoop the opposite breast upward and then tuck it into the bra. Your breasts should stay in your cups when you bend over, so try a bend and snap in the fitting room to test it out.
Checking the underwire
If the bra has an underwire, make sure that it is positioned correctly so that it follows the natural crease of your breasts and extends all the way to your underarm area. The wire should not rest on top of your breasts at any point. If the cup fits but the wire does not follow the crease, try a different style of bra. If the bra lacks a wire, use the same method for checking the bottom seam.
Checking the straps
If the straps on your bra are slipping or digging into your shoulders, try adjusting them. Many of us have asymmetrical breasts, so don't worry about making the strap adjustments even.
